COMMUNICATING YOUR MESSAGE

I still remember the name of the American trainer whose course I attended in the 70s. His name, Clay Hardisty, must have been quite an impact. He started by naming British invention, which the skilled US companies marketed and profited from them, until he got a protest. Then he said, “now I have your attention, I will begin.” The audience’s attention is vital to your effective communication, verbally or in text, but I do not recommend this approach.

So, the key messages that I recall and have used often ever since are “KNOW your AUDIENCE,” “GAIN (the audience’s) ATTENTION” and only tell them what they “MUST KNOW.” If you know your audience, you are free to target its centre of gravity or the most senior person.

Presenting your views with an impact is a skill that everyone needs from time to time. I show various techniques on my website.

Please read more http://twentycc.squarespace.com/hints-on-presenting/, then look around the website for http://twentycc.squarespace.com/boston-matrix/ and the 4x4 example which links to the pages on Systems Thinking analysis tools. Multiple Criteria Analysis is also described and is a way of in-depth consideration of a complex purchase or decision. It is also known as the Kepner Tregoe Method.

If your message is TO SELL, make it easy to BUY. I note on some emails intended to sell, that the first name is not revealed. E.g., a.smith@xyx.co.uk. This infers the salesperson is superior to the possible buyer. It is also helpful to expand Chris to Christine or Sam and Samantha, if appropriate.

To get ahead, and stay ahead of your competitors, your website needs to be top class. So be sure that Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is part of your online marketing strategy. Making your website work for you 24/7 is so much easier and potentially much more rewarding, than for example the dreaded task of “Cold Calling”. See https://twentycc.squarespace.com/rife-interactive/
